Workshop Descriptions

N.B. All levels will have 2 sessions with each tutor (one on Saturday and one on Sunday)

Alannah

Alannah’s workshop will explore a mix of traditional Irish harp repertoire, newly composed Irish tunes and influences from the Appalachian old-time tradition. Through learning and playing together, she’ll look at how these different musical worlds connect, and share ideas for bringing character, style and individuality to the tunes.

Amy

Amy’s workshop will explore creative approaches to pop music on the harp, from understanding common chord progressions to building your own arrangements. She’ll also introduce some of the percussive techniques that have become such a distinctive part of her playing, with opportunities to experiment, improvise and discover new sounds on the instrument.

Nikolaz

Dive into the lively world of Breton dance music with Nikolaz! You’ll learn some traditional Breton tunes and explore the style, rhythm and arrangement ideas that give this music its irresistible energy. Along the way, Nikolaz will share practical ways to make your lever harp arrangements really dance.

Romy

Join Romy for a playful exploration of Scottish traditional music, learning tunes together and discovering fun, creative ways to make them your own. She’ll share approachable ideas for harmony, rhythm and texture, and show how even small changes can open up lots of new possibilities in a tune.
