Workshop Descriptions

N.B. All levels will have 2 sessions with each tutor (one on Saturday and one on Sunday)

Màiri

In her workshops, Màiri will be teaching some tunes from the West Highlands of Scotland where she come from. She will share some of her favourite melodies from this part of the world, .with a focus on choices around phrasing, ornamentation, articulation and left hand accompaniments.

Tamsin

Have you always wanted to play jazz but just… didn’t know where to start? You are not alone!

In these workshops, we will look at some of the basics of jazz theory (don’t be scared!) and demystify some of those confusing terms you might have seen - is ‘D-7#9b13’ a chord symbol or a secure password?! We will then apply these ideas to a jazz standard.

You’ll learn to swing, and leave with the tools you need to start exploring jazz on your own…!

Luke

Designed for harpers of all standards that are interested in exploring the Ancient Musical Tradition of Ireland, this interactive workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn some of Ireland's most famous folk songs, develop dexterity and fluidity using popular tunes, and improve their technical ability with some useful warm up exercises.

Clotilde

Steeped in traditional Breton music since her childhood, and a graduate of the Conservatoire, it is quite natural that Clotilde today transmits this repertoire during her lively workshops.

She will help you explore playing, arranging and harmonisation of traditional Breton music, especially the dance, march and melody repertoire.
